First record of a birth at New Idria occurred in January 1859 when Cirilo Acconches is born (probably Conches or Conchez). Excerpt from a letter written January 14, 1859: "A boy child is born to the mine yesterday morning, Cirilo Acconches. Manuel the ox driver nurse. The maestro acting as mother or day nurse to the other children and Joaquin man of all work."

Julian Unzar is stabbed at his saloon by Ascension Rojos. Rojos "fired his six-shooter several times, fortunately without effect, and afterwards stabbed and dangerously wounded Julian Unzar."

The road is completed between New Idria and San Juan. A new wagon made the 85 mile trip to deliver eighty flasks of quicksilver.
