The New Idria Time Line

1880 – The New Idria Mining Company applied for and obtained a land patent from the General Land Office for 20 acres of land, encompassing the site of the New Idria Mine.

1887 – Fresno County looses New Idria to San Benito County. The San Benito County residents later learn that Fresno surrendered the mines to rid themselves of the expense of prosecuting and jailing criminals from the mines. Although Fresno pretended to fight against the change, she was relieved to lose the burden.

1894 – The New Idria Post Office dropped the word "New" and the town become officially known as Idria.

1894, April – McGarrahan dies bringing an end the New Idria legal battle. J. W. C. Maxwell, superintendent of the mines for the New Idria Mining Company, upon learning of McGarrahan's death stated, "He ought to have died years ago. He set up some kind of a fraudulent claim to our mine and cost the company $1,000,000."

1896, February 20 – A group of investors formed the New Idria Quicksilver Mining Company and buy the New Idria Mining Company for $444,150.
