1880 - The New Idria Mining Company obtains a land patent from the General Land Office for 20 acres of land, encompassing the site of the New Idria Mine. A mine explosion injures five men at New Idria.
1883 - A bill is introduced into the Assembly to annex the New Idria area into San Benito County, thus slicing off a portion of the west side of Fresno County. 1894 - The New Idria Post Office drops the word "New" and the town become officially known as Idria. Marianna, Joaquin Murieta's ex-mistress, is inviting many people to Joaquin Rocks to await the end of the world. 1894 - McGarrahan dies bringing an end the New Idria legal battle. J. W. C. Maxwell, superintendent of the mines for the New Idria Mining Company, upon learning of McGarrahan's death stated, "He ought to have died years ago. He set up some kind of a fraudulent claim to our mine and cost the company $1,000,000."
